How it is calculated

Round: π ÷ 4 × d² × density ÷ 1000. Square: a² × density ÷ 1000. Hexagon: 0.866 × AF² × density ÷ 1000. Flat: width × thickness × density ÷ 1000 (mm, g/cm³ → kg/m). For MS round bar: d² ÷ 162.

A 12 mm MS or TMT bar weighs about 0.888 kg per metre (12² ÷ 162), or about 10.7 kg for a 12 m length.

Use 0.866 × AF² × density ÷ 1000, where AF is the size across flats in mm. For brass (8.5 g/cm³) a 20 mm hex weighs about 2.94 kg/m.
